About David burton

My name is David Burton, welcome to Dirt Road Recording. The studio takes its name from the dirt road driveway that leads to our home and is pictured in the header photo. My wife and I live here with two Blue Heelers. It’s peaceful and we enjoy the solitude and desert wildlife, especially the late-night coyote choruses. I have created this website because I am working on an album of original music titled End of the World Show.

By way of  background, I was a professional musician in the Seventies and Eighties, but songwriting had always been my first love. In the early Nineties, I had two songs picked up by Marge Hunt, then Director of A&R at CBS/Sony in Nashville. One was an uptempo acoustic blues song called Fool’s Paradise. Marge said, “I’m going to solicit Waylon Jennings with this song; he couldn’t sell snowballs in hell right now.” Marge was all business. I have no idea whether Waylon ever heard the song. Rick Gilbreath, a friend who frequently recorded at CBS/Sony, told me that my songs were collecting dust in a vault with 300,000 others. I became increasingly cynical about the music industry and was discouraged that record companies kept trying to clone the last big hit, rather than encouraging new work. I have subsequently decided to focus on writing songs in genres that I enjoy.

I just completed Signs and Wonders, and I'm about to begin End of the World Show. I would be remiss not to thank John Keenan (jckmusic.com), the producer, for all of his creative input and the skill he brings as a recording engineer. Also, I'd like to thank the musicians who did all the great session work. They are listed on the song credits accordingly.
